Terms and Conditions for Memberships

Effective Date: October 2024

Welcome to Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace! By purchasing any membership plan, you agree to comply with the following Terms and Conditions. These terms govern the usage, responsibilities, and benefits of membership at our Makerspace. Please read carefully before completing your purchase.

1. Membership Plans

We offer the following membership plans with varying access and privileges:

  • Simple Project Membership: Access to basic tools and front warehouse space for small projects during standard hours.

  • Full Workshop Membership: Full access to all workshop tools and equipment during standard hours, excluding CNC and laser machinery.

  • CNC/Laser Membership: Includes access to all CNC and laser equipment only.

Each membership type may be subject to changes or updates at the discretion of Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace.

2. Duration of Membership

Your membership begins on the date of purchase and will continue for the duration of the chosen plan (monthly, quarterly, or annually). Please note that:

  • One month may include 28, 30, or 31 days, depending on the calendar month.

  • Membership renewals will occur on the same calendar day each month, even if the number of days varies.

  • Membership cancellation requests must be made at least 5 days before renewal to avoid charges for the next cycle.
     

3. Payment and Fees

  • Membership fees are billed in advance, depending on the plan selected.

  • Payments are non-refundable except under exceptional circumstances as determined by the Makerspace.

  • Late or missed payments may result in suspension or termination of your membership until outstanding fees are cleared.
     

4. Code of Conduct

Members must follow our Makerspace Code of Conduct to ensure a safe and collaborative environment:

Respect for Others:

  • Treat other members, staff, and guests with kindness and respect.

  • Discrimination, harassment, or aggressive behavior of any kind is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate membership revocation without refund.

Use of Equipment:

  • Use equipment only for its intended purpose and only after receiving proper training.

  • Always clean your workspace and return tools to their designated areas after use.

  • Report any malfunctioning or damaged equipment to the staff immediately.

Safety Standards:

  • Adhere to all posted safety rules and wear the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Do not use any equipment while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • Be aware of your surroundings, and help maintain a safe environment for everyone.
     

5. Usage Agreements

As a member of Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace, you agree to the following terms of use:

  • Tool Access:

    • Members are granted access to tools and equipment based on their membership type.

    • The CNC/Laser equipment is only available to CNC/Laser Members. Usage of these machines may require additional training or certification.

  • Workspace Access:

    • Access hours are based on  opening hours unless special authorization is given to individual members.

    • Membership is for individual use only; sharing access or allowing unauthorized guests is prohibited.
       

6. Termination and Suspension of Membership

Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace reserves the right to suspend or terminate memberships under the following conditions:

  • Violation of the Code of Conduct or safety policies.

  • Non-payment of membership fees.

  • Any behavior deemed harmful or unsafe to other members, staff, or the facility.

No refunds will be issued in the event of membership termination due to a violation of these terms.
 

7. Liability Waiver

By purchasing a membership, you acknowledge that Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace is not responsible for any personal injury, property damage, or loss that occurs while using the Makerspace. Members use all equipment and facilities at their own risk.
 

8. Privacy and Data Protection

We respect your privacy. Personal information collected will only be used for managing memberships and facilitating communication. Your data will not be shared with third parties except when required by law or with your consent.
 

9. Amendments to Terms

Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions as necessary. Significant changes will be communicated to members via email or posted on our website. Continued use of the Makerspace constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.

By purchasing a membership, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions.

Terms and Conditions for Workshops

Thank you for your interest in participating in a workshop at Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace! These Terms and Conditions outline important information about workshop registration, safety requirements, and payments. By enrolling in any workshop, you agree to adhere to the policies described below.
 

1. Workshop Registration

  • Eligibility: Workshops are open to the general public, and participants must be 16 or older, unless otherwise specified in the workshop description.

  • Registration: All participants must register in advance either online or in person at Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace. Space in each workshop is limited and enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Confirmation: Registration is confirmed only when full payment is received.
     

2. Payments and Refunds

  • Payment Methods: Payment for workshops must be made at the time of registration through our online portal or in person at the Makerspace. Accepted payment methods include [Credit Card, Debit Card, PayPal, etc.].

  • Refund Policy: Refunds are available only if the participant cancels at least [X] days before the workshop date. No refunds will be provided for cancellations made less than [X] days before the workshop.

  • Workshop Cancellations: If Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace cancels a workshop due to low enrollment, instructor unavailability, or other unforeseen circumstances, participants will receive a full refund or the option to transfer their payment to another workshop.
     

3. Safety Requirements

At Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace, safety is our top priority. All workshop participants must adhere to the following safety guidelines:

  • Mandatory Safety Briefing: All participants must attend a safety briefing before the start of the workshop. Failure to attend the briefing may result in denial of participation without a refund.

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Participants are required to wear appropriate PPE, which may include safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, and closed-toe shoes. Specific PPE requirements will be listed in the workshop description, and some equipment may be provided by the Makerspace.

  • Proper Attire: Loose clothing, jewelry, and long hair must be secured to prevent accidents. Workshop descriptions will specify if specific attire is needed.

  • Tool and Equipment Usage: Participants must only use tools and equipment for which they have been instructed and are trained. Any misuse or failure to follow instructions may result in immediate dismissal from the workshop without a refund.

  • Supervision: During the workshop, instructors will monitor participants' usage of tools and equipment. Follow all instructor directions promptly to ensure safety.

  • Medical Conditions: If you have any medical condition (e.g., allergies, asthma, physical limitations) that may affect your participation, please notify the instructor before the workshop begins.
     

4. Code of Conduct

All participants are expected to behave respectfully and professionally during the workshop:

  • Respect for Others: Treat fellow participants, instructors, and staff with courtesy and respect. Harassment, inappropriate behavior, or disruptive conduct will not be tolerated and may result in immediate removal from the workshop.

  • Respect for Equipment: Handle all Makerspace tools, equipment, and materials with care. Any damage caused by reckless behavior may result in fees for repair or replacement.

  • Cleanliness: Participants are responsible for cleaning up their work areas at the end of the workshop. Proper disposal of waste and return of tools to their designated areas is required.
     

5. Liability Waiver

By participating in any workshop at Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace, you agree to the following:

  • Assumption of Risk: Participants acknowledge that the use of tools and equipment may involve risks, including injury, and voluntarily assume all risks associated with participation in the workshop.

  • Release of Liability: Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace is not responsible for any personal injury, property damage, or loss that may occur during the workshop. By participating, you release Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace, its staff, and instructors from any liability.
     

6. Photography and Media

  • Media Release: By participating in a workshop, you consent to being photographed or recorded for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to be included in media, please notify the instructor prior to the workshop.
     

7. Workshop Cancellation by Participants

  • Transfer of Registration: If you are unable to attend a workshop, you may transfer your registration to another individual with prior notification to Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace. All transfers must be requested at least [X] days before the workshop date.

  • Late Arrivals: Participants are expected to arrive on time. Late arrivals may not be allowed to join once the workshop has started, and no refund will be issued in such cases.
     

8. Workshop Cancellation by Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace

Sawdust and Splinters Makerspace reserves the right to cancel workshops at any time for reasons including, but not limited to, insufficient registration, instructor illness, or equipment failure. In such cases, participants will receive a full refund or may opt to transfer their payment to another workshop.

By registering for a workshop, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions.
